POP

While rock & roll dominated the latter half of the 1950s, traditional pop music was at the fore during the early 1950s, with pioneers such as Patti Page.

Patti Page

Patti Page was probably the most influential pop singer of the 1950s.  She produced the decade’s greatest pop hit in her famous "Tennessee Waltz."  Along with other traditional pop singers, she dominated the music industry in the first half of the 1950s.  Incredibly, and unusual for the time, she was able to sustain her success in the late 1950s as rock & roll was becoming more popular, a testament to her skill as a musician. Additionally, she incorporated other musica styles into her own pop music.  As others were incorporating mainly jazz, she was incorporating country, lending a unique style and artistic feel to her music.  Her most famous song is at the right.
