For men, the gray flannel suit became commonplace.

The UK had a lot of effect upon the fashion in the US, especially with the BBC shows that featured men that were wearing these suits.

Pleated pants also became a largely utilized garment. They were often part of the gray suits that men wore.

Also, although women usually wore dresses, when wearing loosely fitted trousers they were almost always pleated.
WOMEN

Waistlines became increasingly narrow as an attempt to increase the womanly form. The hemlines of skirts rose to even the higher parts of the calves. Most of the time these dresses had short sleeves.

Full petticoats were all the rage, because they gave the appearance of a fuller skirt, and a more feminine silhouette.

Of the variety of coats that women wore, the most popular were the pea coats. Although some had a nipped waistline, often, women would were coats that were loosely draped around their dresses. Also, these coats would highlights strips of fur or velvet.
